Usually, that means poking a pile of scat with a stick. But for one South Carolina alligator hunter, the stuff that <em>didn\u2019t<\/em> pass through a 12-foot gator was much more interesting. <\/p>\n<p>Ned McNeely brought the 445-pound gator to Kenneth Cordray\u2019s butcher shop in Ravenel, South Carolina, after taking it on his property in Adam\u2019s Run in April 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.live5news.com\/2021\/04\/09\/quarter-century-old-dog-tag-among-items-found-foot-sc-gators-belly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">WCSC<\/a> reported. (Killing nuisance gators on private property is legal year-round in South Carolina.) McNeely reportedly asked Cordray about looking through the gator\u2019s stomach contents. Cordray eventually obliged, and the results were gobsmacking.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation yielded five hunting dog collar tags, multiple bobcat claws and turtle shells, a bullet casing, and a spark plug, Cordray wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/cordrays\/posts\/pfbid036aVh2JuT5g9ugbxFYjt9RU93wbAyp2vFU7TBZ7MCmEV3acQHnhEBE7p1qLzEd3QHl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook post<\/a>. (No, this isn\u2019t an April Fool\u2019s joke.)     <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fcordrays%2Fposts%2Fpfbid036aVh2JuT5g9ugbxFYjt9RU93wbAyp2vFU7TBZ7MCmEV3acQHnhEBE7p1qLzEd3QHl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"742\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One of the dog tags still had a legible phone number printed on it, so Cordray gave it a call. An older man answered the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said that he had a lease down on the other side of the river from where the gator was killed, 24 years ago,\u201d Cordray told WCSC. \u201cAnd they always figured [that] the dogs got eaten by the gators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cordray referred to the dogs as \u201chunting dogs\u201d throughout the report and \u201cdeer dogs\u201d in the Facebook post. He estimated they weighed around 80 pounds. Plenty of online commenters have weighed in. One commenter wrote that the South Carolina gator could help with Florida\u2019s python problem, while another mentioned how it belongs in Ripley\u2019s Believe It or Not.
