New state\u00a0gun laws took effect Thursday<\/a>\u00a0in places like Times Square \u2014 but they might not remain that way for long, with a federal judge blasting Albany Democrats for their \u201cunconstitutional\u201d response to a controversial ruling by the US Supreme Court in June.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile pursuing the laudable goal of public safety, and in an attempt to curb ever-increasing mass shootings, the New York State Legislature has generated an unconstitutional statute,\u201d Chief United States District Judge Glenn Suddaby said in a\u00a0decision released late Wednesday.<\/a><\/p>\n While the judge rulef that the suit brought by the Guns Owners of America New York lacked standing \u2014 a decision it might appeal \u2014 the legal win for New York Democrats might prove short-lived amid multiple legal challenges to the new laws.<\/p>\n Kathy Hochul, Governor of New York<\/p>\n<\/div>\n A spokesman for Gun Owners of America New York said the group is considering its options while other cases\u00a0involving state Republicans<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0the New York Rifle and Pistol Association<\/a>\u00a0make their way through the courts.<\/p>\n Gov.
