A San Francisco bakery chain\u2019s \u201cno guns\u201d policy is so strict they\u2019re not even serving on-duty police officers, a move that has Wyoming bakery workers and law enforcement rolling their eyes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re fortunate. We\u2019re supported by not only the local citizens, but by all the businesses as well. I don\u2019t know how we\u2019d react (to such a ban). I don\u2019t foresee it happening here,\u201d Campbell County Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds told Cowboy State Daily on Monday.<\/p>\n
Gun rights advocate Mark Jones of Buffalo, [Wyoming] said the bakery\u2019s decision to boot cops for carrying guns left him dumbfounded.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere to even begin,\u201d said Jones, a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. \u201cThat sounds like anti-gun extremism taken to the max.\u201d …<\/p>\n
For its part, Reem\u2019s California responded that the company plans to stick to its \u201cno guns\u201d policy.<\/p>\n
The company stated in an Instagram post that it is particularly concerned about the safety of minorities and therefore doesn\u2019t want any guns on its property, no matter who is carrying them….<\/p>\n
However, \u201cgun-free zones\u201d supposedly established for safety have the opposite effect, Jones said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou see it with the mass shootings and those sorts of things. Gun control just disarms law-abiding citizens,\u201d he said, adding that Reem\u2019s could end up regretting turning a cold shoulder to cops.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat are they going to do when a bad guy robs their store? Are they not going to want the police there then?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Wyoming allows for both open and concealed carry of firearms without a special permit. However, some public institutions and private businesses may still forbid firearms on their premises in Wyoming.<\/p>\n
Jones said he understands the principle of leaving things to the discretion of business owners, but he still thinks Reem\u2019s policy goes way overboard by not even allowing armed cops doing their jobs to set foot inside their bakeries.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not disputing private property rights. I\u2019m just pointing to the fallacy that a gun-free zone doesn\u2019t prevent crimes, it just emboldens criminals,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n
