--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 700\/525;width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"2\" class=\"lazyload\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/2-1-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"2\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>Any optic this size is going to feel a little like a toy when you unbox it.\u00a0I mean, this thing is two ounces.\u00a0I\u2019ll hand it to Hi-Lux, this feels as solid as any tiny optic has ever felt.\u00a0It won\u2019t add much heft to your gun, roughly the same weight as four rounds of 9mm.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/3-3-525x700.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 525px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 525\/700;width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"3\" class=\"lazyload\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/3-3-525x700.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"3\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>A couple things I noticed right away:\u00a0The max brightness setting is sufficient.\u00a0Seems like a gimme, but some optics have been coming up short on this lately.\u00a0I like the side loading battery compartment.\u00a0I see no reason someone should have to dismount an optic to re-up the battery.\u00a0Including the picatinny low mount at no extra cost is a nice move, since picatinny is a lot more prevalent than RMR footprints.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/4-1-684x700.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 684px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 684\/700;width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"4\" class=\"lazyload\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/4-1-684x700.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"4\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>I would like to see this with some version of \u201cshake awake.\u201d\u00a0With such a long battery life, I see no downside to adding in a feature that\u2019s quickly approaching \u201cindustry standard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hi-Lux TD-3C came with the 34 MOA circle with dot reticle programmed.\u00a0 I swapped to the 3 MOA dot alone, but found I liked the bigger reticle more and immediately switched back.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/5-1-525x700.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 525px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 525\/700;width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"5\" class=\"lazyload\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/5-1-525x700.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"5\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>I mounted the TD-3C to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guns.com\/firearms\/handguns\/semi-auto\/ruger-mark-iv-22-45-22-lr-single-shot-10-rounds-5-5-barrel-new?p=967658\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Ruger Mark IV 22\/45<\/a>, using the included picatinny riser.\u00a0I feel like the Hi-Lux TD-3C is a natural fit on such a small, light firearm. The reticle is well suited to such a gun as well, providing a large illuminated circle to center the dot quickly for reactive fire, and a small, bright dot for more precise aimed fire.<\/p>\n<p>I kept the TD-3C on the Ruger Mark IV for a handful of range days, and I really liked it there.\u00a0I get paid to shake it up a bit more than that though, so I mounted it on an MKE\/Zenith Mp5k clone next.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/6-1-700x386.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 700px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 700\/386;width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"6\" class=\"lazyload\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/6-1-700x386.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"6\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>If I liked the TD-3C on the Ruger, I loved it on the Mp5k.\u00a0This is already a chonky gun, so adding a full-sized (full weight) red dot just exacerbates the issue.\u00a0The TD-3C lives happily on the Mp5k clone now, and I won\u2019t be taking it off.\u00a0This is a big upgrade over the standard HK iron sights, and not only sped up CQB drills but made pinging a mini E-type target at 100 yards much easier.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/7-1-700x603.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 700px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 700\/603;width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"7\" class=\"lazyload\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/7-1-700x603.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Lux TD-3C\" style=\"width:1068px;height:auto\" title=\"7\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wrap It Up<\/h2>\n<p>Three months isn\u2019t a long time to test longevity on an optic.\u00a0Sure I\u2019ve left the battery on the whole time (2,000+ hours), but I still have ~47,000 hours to go.\u00a0Neither the .22 LR nor the 9mm represents a strong challenge in recoil, but the TD-3C is more likely to be run on smaller guns anyhow.\u00a0I <em>have<\/em> let it sit out all day when it was 105\u00b0F, just to see if some version of thermal shift could be induced (it wasn\u2019t).\u00a0 I do plan on getting some rounds on target with this optic on a Ruger SFAR in .308, but I have to wait on a couple more range days before that happens.\u00a0If there\u2019s an issue with the TD-3C holding zero with stiffer recoil, I\u2019ll update this article ASAP.<\/p>\n<p>Until then, I consider the Hi-Lux TD-3C worth checking out if you\u2019re in the market for a tiny optic with a big window and a bright reticle.\u00a0The Hi-Lux TD-3C runs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avantlink.com\/click.php?tool_type=cl&amp;merchant_id=7bce014b-677f-43a4-83c8-3ae9d0f2357e&amp;website_id=4e8a62e5-c9f2-4169-947d-06856fc118da&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.opticsplanet.com%2Fhi-lux-optics-tac-dot-open-reflex-red-dot-sight.html%3Fsrsltid%3DAfmBOoou7FFnK-5aRvrg-wvO1dqJb_J7k3zXwB96Gg_UnhnFja9SQYPs&amp;ctc=hi-lux-optics-td-3c-review\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">$219<\/a>.\u00a0Check it out!<\/p>\n<p><em>Check out more articles from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/author\/jens-hammer\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Jens \u201cRex Nanorum\u201d Hammer\u00a0<\/a>or visit him on Instagram\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.instagram.com\/rexnanorum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">@Rexnanorum.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Visit\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammunitiontogo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong><em>Ammo To Go,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/a><em><strong>the ammunition retail sponsor of TTAG gun reviews and simply a cool online place to fulfill all your ammo needs.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Editor\u2019s Note: All product and gun reviews are performed independently and product mentions made based on the quality of the product and value of interest to gun owners.
