Congress is facing a September 30 deadline to fund the government or face a government shutdown\u2026<\/p>\n
\u2026And the last thing the Biden-Harris White House wants is a government shutdown right before the election.<\/p>\n
But with Congress only in town for three weeks before the September 30 deadline, it\u2019s likely they will only pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) \u2013 a temporary funding bill that lets Congress postpone the full funding bill to a later date.<\/p>\n
The question becomes\u2026 will they postpone the spending bill until right AFTER the 2024 election \u2013 when politicians are no longer beholden to voters?<\/em><\/p>\n That\u2019s what happened in 2022 when the soon-to-be ex-Speaker Pelosi pushed a dozen anti-gun provisions in the massive government funding bill during the lame duck session before she was forced to hand the Speaker\u2019s gavel to the new Republican House majority.<\/p>\n The last thing we want is for Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer to pass sweeping gun control measures right before they lose power.<\/em><\/p>\n GOA is actively working with our allies on Capitol Hill to prevent that doomsday scenario.<\/p>\n But it\u2019s not enough just to play defense against the gun grabbers. We also have a plan to use the Continuing Resolution to go on the offensive.<\/strong><\/p>\n Congressman Chip Roy and the House Freedom Caucus are fighting to attach the SAVE Act to a CR. The SAVE Act is a GOA-backed bill that would protect the People\u2019s right to vote by requiring PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP<\/strong> before you can vote in federal elections. It already passed the House in July, 221-198.<\/p>\n Non-citizens and illegal aliens should not have the power to cast a deciding vote on the fate of YOUR constitutionally protected, God-given rights.<\/em><\/p>\n That\u2019s why GOA is asking YOU to pressure your Representative and Senators to fight for a CR that avoids a post-election government funding bill \u2013 and to vote for the SAVE Act to keep our elections free and fair.<\/p>\n Please add your name to our pre-written letter urging your Representative and two Senators to ENACT the SAVE Act and VOTE NO on any attempt to kick the can on a government spending bill to the lame duck session.<\/a><\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n While Pelosi got away with sneaking a bunch of anti-gun provisions past voters before vacating the Speaker\u2019s chair, I also want to remind you of GOA\u2019s victories in the last government funding fight in March of this year.<\/p>\n GOA\u2019s federal lobbying team was able to SLASH the ATF\u2019s budget by historic proportions, canceling an entire class of ATF agents.<\/strong><\/p>\n We also halted the Veteran Fiduciary Rule, which had banned over a quarter of a million veterans from exercising their Second Amendment rights, all because they required financial assistance.<\/p>\n And right now, we\u2019re pleased to report that Speaker Johnson seems to be on board with this plan.<\/p>\n But, reports also indicate that Mitch McConnell \u2013 who has sold out gun owners time and time again \u2013 opposes the idea of tying the SAVE Act to the CR.<\/p>\n That\u2019s why we need the help of gun owners like YOU to bombard your Representative and two Senators with letters urging them to fight for a CR that avoids a post-election government funding bill \u2013 and to vote for the SAVE Act to keep our elections free and fair.<\/p>\n
