A judge has blocked a\u00a0gun<\/a>\u00a0ban enacted by executive order from\u00a0Philadelphia\u00a0Mayor\u00a0Jim Kenney<\/a>\u00a0(D), one week after the liberal mayor signed the EO.<\/p>\n Mayor Jim Kenney (D)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Kenney last week attempted to outlaw firearms, even for legal gun owners, at city recreational facilities, despite\u00a0state law<\/a>\u00a0barring such regulation. The order was quickly challenged by nonprofit gun group\u00a0Guns Owners of America<\/a>\u00a0(GOA).<\/p>\n Judge Joshua Roberts, a\u00a0Democrat<\/a>, granted a \u201cpermanent injunction\u201d against the order, effectively banning the enforcement of the EO,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to NBC Philadelphia.<\/p>\n \u201cThe law in Pennsylvania couldn\u2019t be clearer,\u201d GOA\u00a0attorney Andrew Austin\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0in a statement following the ruling. \u201cNo municipality \u2013 including Philadelphia \u2013 may regulate the lawful possession of firearms in any manner.\u201d<\/p>\n Pennsylvania state law specifically\u00a0states<\/a>, \u201cNo county, municipality, or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer, or transportation of firearms, ammunition, or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this commonwealth,\u201d according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.<\/p>\n Kenney claimed the order was necessary to protect people. \u201cThis gives them some protection, some peace of mind, some ability to call the authorities when some knucklehead decides they want to bring a gun into a rec center and they see it, that\u2019s part of what this is about,\u201d the mayor said, according to the Inquirer.<\/p>\n \u201cObviously, the City doesn\u2019t care about that law or the concrete legal precedent affirming it, and since there are no consequences for them, they will continue to try to ram through illegal rules to the detriment of their own citizens,\u201d Austin said. \u201cHowever, we\u2019re grateful that the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas was willing to act so quickly to prohibit the mayor\u2019s illegal action.\u201d…<\/p>\n Read more at the Daily Wire<\/a><\/p>\n
