Two upstate New York Republicans are preparing to introduce a measure urging judges to scrap a state law that bans guns from \u201csensitive\u201d places \u2014 including Times Square \u2014 and mandates social media background checks for concealed carry applicants.<\/p>\n
Reps. Claudia Tenney and Elise Stefanik are leading the congressional pushback against Albany\u2019s Concealed Carry Improvement Act, which took effect last month, replacing a century-old law that the Supreme Court\u00a0struck down in June.<\/a><\/p>\n The New York City-based Second Circuit Court of Appeals\u00a0on Wednesday allowed state officials to continue enforcing the law after Syracuse federal judge Glenn Suddaby\u00a0paused it\u00a0<\/a>pending a lawsuit from Gun Owners of America.<\/p>\n \u201cDemocrats in New York, led by Governor Kathy Hochul, ignored [the Supreme Court\u2019s] ruling and enacted a blatantly unconstitutional law,\u201d said Tenney, the author of\u00a0the House resolution<\/a>\u00a0to be introduced Friday.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile legal challenges against this law work their way through the courts, I am honored to stand once again in support of New Yorkers\u2019 right to keep\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>bear arms,\u201d Tenney said.<\/p>\n Stefanik, an original cosponsor, said, \u201cKathy Hochul\u2019s gun grabbing law is unconstitutional and a direct attack on our Upstate rights and values.\u201d<\/p>\n Rep.
