FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n March 14, 2023<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Washington, D.C. \u2013 Today, Gun Owners of America (GOA) issued a strong rebuke of President Biden\u2019s speech in Monterey Park, CA, where he signed an executive order to further his goal of requiring Universal Background Registration Checks on gun purchases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n This action is a direct result of the Cornyn-Murphy gun control \u2018compromise\u2019 that passed last year, which <\/span>GOA repeatedly warned<\/span><\/a> was a complete overreach and merely a stepping stone for further anti-gun actions in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Erich Pratt, GOA\u2019s Senior Vice President, issued the following statement:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe current background check system is ineffective and 9 out of 10 times falsely flags someone as ineligible to purchase. Instead of expanding the requirements to harass people who sell as few as just one firearm in a given year, this administration should be focusing their attention on keeping bad actors locked away, like the D.C. police chief <\/span>openly stated<\/span><\/a> just last week. Guns will continue to fall into the wrong hands as long as politicians and bureaucrats fail to acknowledge the real elephant in the room \u2013 violent criminals freely walking the streets.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Aidan Johnston, GOA\u2019s Director of Federal Affairs, added:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWe warned the public that Senator Cornyn\u2019s \u2018compromise\u2019 on your rights was merely the first step in a larger effort to create Universal Background Registration Checks, which this President <\/span>openly states is his goal<\/span><\/a>. Gun owners didn\u2019t get anything from this so-called \u2018compromise\u2019 except their constitutional rights violated with backdoor UBCs, gun confiscation laws, and more.
