I prefer to carry something smaller. A knife that\u2019s lighter and more pocketable. I tend to like slim, no-frills <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3JSfMdk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drop point blades<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/sogknives.com\/kiku-xr-blackout\/#tech-specs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SOG Kiku XR<\/a> flipper is a beefy, solid, substantial folding knife that\u2019s beautifully SOG calls the Kiku XR\u2019s blade shape a \u201cmodified tanto.\u201d OK then. I\u2019m not big on recurved blades. They tend to complicate sharpening. But I haven\u2019t had a problem putting or keeping a wicked edge\u00a0 on the Kiku.<\/p>\n<p>That blade is made of CTS-XHP steel which is like a much more corrosion-resistant D2. It\u2019s about as convenient and easy-to-use for simple one-handed operation as it gets. The Kiku sports thoughtfully thsculpted linen micarta. G10 can be nice when done well, but every knife should have micarta scales\u2026at least as far as I\u2019m concerned.<\/p>\n<p>Those smoothly contoured scales make this knife more comfortable in the hand than any other folding knife of its size and weight I own. The Kiku is no lightweight. It weighs a full 5.6 oz (exactly twice the heft of the more diminutive Delica) and that\u2019s with the Kiku\u2019s liners partially drilled to save some mass.<\/p>\n<p>That blade is 3.8mm thick. That means it will stand up to a lot of abuse (and I\u2019ve abused it fairly well in the last six months).<\/p>\n<p>In short, the Kiku XR has become one of my favorite knives in spite of what I usually like in an EDC blade. I carry it much more often that I expected to. It\u2019s so well designed and performs so smoothly, I just can\u2019t help but like virtually everything about it.<\/p>\n<p>You will, of course, pay for all the Kiku\u2019s features, intelligent design, and materials. It <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3FDroP7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retails for about $145<\/a>. That\u2019s not inexpensive.
